Billy Jam on the Community Skratch Games

Tweek, Bierhaus, CSG 2010

As we mentioned before, Billy Jam was at the Community Skratch Games this year and here’s what he had to say about it all..

a short excerpt for you…
Now in its fourth year, the aptly named Community Skratch Games (CSG), which features several DJ based showcases and a scratch DJ battle over the long weekend, is truly all about community with a genuine emphasis on fun & camaraderie rather than on competition & seriousness. In fact, the prize for the winner of the CSG’s annual DJ battle is not a trophy (a la the famed DMC or ITF battles) but a big bag of Irish breakfast meats (rashers, sausages, black pudding etc., all supplied by the local butcher) that the winning DJ traditionally shares with the other participants in a big breakfast cookout on “Skratch Monday” after all events are over.

Skratch Games Producer Showcase

The final night of the Community Skratch Games took place last night to another full venue at the Bierhaus. Lots of great music all night. Difficult to pick the highlights, but for me they were the Noid The Droid DJ set, T-Wok, Manus Goan and the brand new set from Rubble Digits which was incredbile. I wasn’t able to stream it as it was too dark in the venue, but I am confident that Rubble Digits (pictured)  is one to watch in 2010 and beyond. The crowd were assaulted by glitched up beats and hardcore Gabba (especially Jimmy Penguin who has a bad neck as a result of it today).

It was great to catch the Neil Buchanan show. These guys have real skill and smashed it yesterday..  they would do DEADLY business in a huge venue.

So today, we are at Jimmy Penguins house for a skratch session with Moschops, DJakulate, Jimmy Penguin, Blak Randy, Maroon, and Deviant. Dinner is on the cards thanks to Sarah Face!!

Yet again the skratch games has highlighted what a berserk place Galway is, and how much skratch and music talent there is out there. Thanks again to the Vince Mack Mahon boys for putting this together. Everyone is keen to make sure our summer tour shows are even bigger and better than last year, so make sure you check NozL Recordings.com for the details!!

Turntable Showcase at the Skratch Games!!

Well. I have finally recovered enough to get a net connection to write a short account of last night.

Showcases were great, but played a little more low-key part than usual last night with early performances from Blak Randy, Tuphat Paddy’s, Maroon, Jimmy Penguin, Johnny Doobs and Stroller. The real highlight of the night was the new “Royal Rumble” format of the competition. All 10 entrants had to go 16 bars each before the cymbals clashed, with one competitor exiting each round. The standard was excellent and the venue was rammed. Billy Jam was there watching the events unfold, and will no doubt be glad he made the journey.

In the final was Deviant and Blak Randy and as usual the atmosphere was amazing. [Edit: Forgot to mention that Deviant won the title and the MEAT!!]. I managed to get into an incredible state, drinking all sorts of horrible nonsense.

We have just been sat in the Crane. an amazing proper Irish pub where we were treated to some great community traditional Irish music before being read the Irish Act of Independence and sung songs about the “British with their guns”.

Next up tonight is the producers showcase featuring Paddy and the Heartbreak Kid (pictured above) and Fidel Cutstro. I think I’m going to do some more scratches today for somebody I’ve just met so will keep you posted. More streams to come later…

Off to the Community Skratch Games!!

I am pleased to say that we will be on the way to the Community Skratch Games in Ireland from about 4am tomorrow morning. To make the journey all the more comfortable we have decided to travel with Ryanair (!). These now seem like strange decisions, but it will leave more money for stout over the weekend. To celebrate all of this.

Welcome to the new-look website! As you will see we have added a Skratchstream preview box on the front page. Throughout the Skratchgames we will be broadcasting live, so if there is a Play button in that box, we are broadcasting live!

I will archive videos throughout the weekend, so you can check what the Community Skratch boys and girls have been up to since we last saw them back in August.

G.O.D in Cardiff and Plymouth

[Originally posted 24/03/2010]

Jimmy Hatetank and Maroon (AKA Grandeurs Of Delusion) are hitting the road this week and will be playing along side Stig and Dr syntax in Cardiff (Tues 23rd March) and Plymouth (Sat 27th March).
To keep you all up to date we will be U-streaming and blogging in some form live from the events.

[EDIT: Well I have totally failed on the blogging front so far. We didnt arrive in Cardiff until around 10pm and so had to get straight on with the setup and sound check. I’m going to look into some sort of lighting so we can stream from inside venues. Was too dark to see anything on camera.

Was great to meet people who came out specifically for the G.O.D show and who’d seen the videos online. Stig and Synners smashed it as always. A really great Hip-Hop show that gets really rowdy. One guy had blood on his shoulder from the mosh-pit.. and the whole thing ended in a drunken mess again…

And so on to Plymouth on Saturday. If you’re a cornish type, get yourself down and come get messy with us.

If I was a room in a house right now I’d be a destroyed Kitchen. Ben would be a newly refurbished en-suite bathroom.

Posters, like…..
